Meta has announced a collaboration with Oakley, a company known for sports performance equipment. This partnership, named Oakley Meta, aims to create a new line of smart glasses. These glasses are anticipated to target cyclists and athletes. This venture marks the third collaboration between Meta and Luxottica's subsidiary, following the Ray-Ban Stories and Ray-Ban Meta Glasses introduced in 2021 and 2023.

The announcement was made on Instagram through a new account called "Oakleymeta." The post hinted at an upcoming release on June 20 but did not provide further details. It is speculated that this could be related to the successor of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which was rumoured earlier this year.

Smart Glasses Design and Features

The upcoming smart glasses are reportedly named "Supernova 2" and are expected to be inspired by Oakley's Sphaera sunglasses, designed for multi-sport use. Unlike the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which cater to general use, these glasses might specifically target athletes such as cyclists.

A significant design change is anticipated in the camera placement. While the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses have a camera on the left side of the frame, the Oakley Meta glasses are expected to feature a centrally placed lens. This alteration could influence the point-of-view captured in videos taken with these smart glasses.
