Yesterday's OnePlus Cloud 11 event saw a plethora of premium products being announced. While the OnePlus 11 series smartphones were the obvious highlight, the Chinese brand also had a few interesting anouncements at the event, such as its first ever multi-band router, a premium tablet, and a customizable mechanical keyboard. The OnePlus Featuring 81 Pro keyboard marks the company's first foray into mechanical keyboards. It is also supposed to be the first ever desktop keyboard with marble-mallow keycaps, a new "patented thermoplastic elastomer" material which the company claims "produces a springy bounce with each press and provides users with maximum comfort and functionality."

The OnePlus Featuring 81 Pro keyboard is encased in an aluminum-crafted lightweight body. The keyboard comes in a double gasket-mounted design and a seventy-five percent layout. Simply put, the OnePlus keyboard has multiple customization options, including replaceable switches through hotswap sockets.

Speaking of customization of keys, the OnePlus Featuring 81 Pro Keyboard has hot-swappable TGB-backlit switches. OnePlus claims the keyboard, "fully supports advanced, customizable features." What this means is that the OnePlus Keyboard has open-source firmware. This means buyers can install their own custom routines and macros for individual keys.

The keyboard is "universally compatible" with every major operating system. OnePlus has reportedly collaborated with leading keyboard manufacturer Keychron to develop a keyboard layout that works with macOS, Windows, and Linux. With the right accessories, the OnePlus Keyboard could also be used with smartphones and tablets running iOS or Android.

The OnePlus Featuring 81 Pro Keyboard is wireless. It operates using Bluetooth v5.1 in the 2.4GHz band (2402MHz to 2480MHz). Some reports claim the keyboard has a 4000mAh battery.

OnePlus claims the keyboard works for about 100 hours at its lowest brightness. The OnePlus keyboard charges via a USB-C port, and takes approximately 5 hours to fully charge. Users can also connect the keyboard to a computer to charge and use the same simultaneously. The keyboard can be connected wirelessly up to a distance of about 10 meters.

The OnePlus Featuring 81 Pro keyboard will be available in Dark grey and Light grey colors. OnePlus will start selling the keyboard in April.

OnePlus hasn't indicated the pricing of its OnePlus keyboard as yet. It is a premium mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting and hot-swappable keycaps. Hence, it could command a premium price.
