Sony WH-1000XM6 Noise Cancelling Headphones Launched with Real-Time Audio Upscaling: Price, Specs, Features

Sony has unveiled its latest flagship wireless noise-cancelling headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM6. These headphones boast numerous enhancements over their predecessors, albeit at a higher cost. The XM6 is priced at $450, which is $50 more than the previous model, the XM5. However, the older models have seen price reductions, with the XM5 now available for $350 and the XM4 for $300.

The audio quality of the Sony WH-1000XM6 has been significantly improved. Sony collaborated with renowned studio engineers like Randy Merrill and Chris Genringer from Sterling Sound, Mike Piacentini from Battery Studios, and Michael Romanowski from Coast Mastering to fine-tune the sound. The headphones promise "studio-level accuracy," allowing listeners to experience music as intended by artists.

Enhanced Noise Cancellation and Design

The active noise cancellation features of the XM6 have also seen advancements. Equipped with 12 microphones and a new QN3 HD Noise Canceling Processor, which is seven times faster than its predecessor, these headphones adapt swiftly to ambient noise changes. The driver design has been refined for better noise cancellation performance.

In terms of design updates, the WH-1000XM6 sports a wider headband to reduce pressure on the head. It also features an asymmetrical design for easy identification of left and right sides. The hinge now offers increased articulation compared to the XM5, allowing earcups to fold inwards. Available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue, all models feature matte finishes.

Audio Technology and Features

The headphones are equipped with a 30mm driver featuring a high rigidity carbon fiber composite material dome and a new voice coil structure. The digital-to-analog conversion includes an advanced look-ahead noise shaper that optimizes quantization noise while responding quickly to sudden sound changes.

For codec support, users can enjoy SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 along with Sony's DSEE Extreme upscaling algorithm. Additionally, the 360 Reality Audio feature comes with a new Upmix for Cinema mode that transforms stereo content into spatial sound.

Improved Call Quality

Sony claims that call quality has been enhanced through AI-assisted beamforming microphones that better isolate your voice from background noise. This ensures clearer communication during calls even in noisy environments.

The WH-1000XM6 also comes with a new carry case featuring a magnetic latch for secure storage when not in use. With these comprehensive upgrades across various aspects including audio quality, design improvements, and enhanced features like noise cancellation and call clarity-Sony aims to deliver an exceptional listening experience with its latest offering.
