Sony WF-1000XM6 Premium TWS Earbuds Launched with Advanced Noise Cancellation: Check Price & Features

Sony has introduced the WF-1000XM6, replacing the WF-1000XM5 as its flagship wireless earbuds after a two-year gap. The model is priced at €300/$330 and comes in black and silver. Sony positions the WF-1000XM6 as its most advanced pair yet, with major gains in sound processing and noise cancellation.

The earbuds feature an upgraded Integrated Processor V2 that now handles 32-bit audio, instead of the WF-1000XM5’s 24-bit support. Sony states that this change improves clarity, dynamic range and fine detail. The WF-1000XM6 also keeps an 8-hour rated battery life per charge, with 24 hours available including the case.

Sony WF-1000XM6 Design and Connectivity

The WF-1000XM6 is offered in black and silver finishes, each using redesigned internal antennas that are 1.5 times larger than on the WF-1000XM5. Sony says this update strengthens wireless stability. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3 with LE support, multipoint pairing, Auracast broadcasting, Fast Pair for Android and Swift Pair for Windows devices.

The earbuds also support 360 Reality Audio with head tracking, which adjusts spatial sound according to head movement. This feature aims to create a more immersive listening field when compatible content is used. Users can move between phones, tablets, laptops and televisions while keeping audio connections consistent and less prone to drop-outs.

Sony WF-1000XM6 Sound and Noise Cancellation

Inside each WF-1000XM6 earbud sits an 8.4mm dynamic driver tuned by Sony’s acoustic engineers. The tuning work includes input from several Sony Music-affiliated recording studios. Codec support covers AAC, SBC, LC3 and LDAC, allowing higher-resolution wireless streams with supported devices and services.

Sony includes DSEE Extreme processing, which uses an AI algorithm to upscale compressed files. Listeners who like manual control get an updated 10-band equaliser within the Sony Sound Connect app. This app lets users customise frequency response profiles for different genres or environments and store them as presets on the WF-1000XM6.

Sony WF-1000XM6 Battery, Durability, More

A major hardware change is the QN3e noise-cancelling chip, taken from the WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones. Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 delivers 25% more effective noise reduction than the WF-1000XM5, with particular gains in mid and high frequency ranges, where voices and urban sounds often dominate.

The active noise cancellation system uses an adaptive optimiser, which monitors external noise and the fit of each earbud in real time. It then adjusts both sound output and noise cancelling strength as conditions change. Two additional outward-facing microphones are added, giving four microphones per earbud and helping improve both ANC and ambient sound performance.

Sony reports that the ambient mode on the WF-1000XM6 is more natural and lifelike than before. This mode aims to let traffic, announcements and conversations pass through more convincingly when needed. The earbuds also maintain IPX4 resistance, making them suitable for use in light rain or during workouts that involve sweat.

Battery life is rated at up to 8 hours from the earbuds alone, matching the WF-1000XM5 figures. The charging case stores two extra full charges, bringing total claimed playback to 24 hours. Wireless charging support remains available, alongside wired charging through the case’s port, for flexible power options during travel or daily use.
