HyperX Cloud Jet Review: A No-Nonsense Wireless Gaming Headset Under Rs 5,000

At Rs 4,296 on Amazon, the HyperX Cloud Jet walks into a fiercely competitive segment and immediately makes a case for itself. It works with both PC and PS5, offers dual connectivity with a 2.4GHz receiver and Bluetooth, and packs a microphone that’s clear enough for both in-game coordination and the usual rant in Counter-Strike 2.

I’ve spent over two weeks playing everything from story-driven titles to chaotic multiplayer matches with the Cloud Jet. And while it gets a lot right, there are a few things that slightly dent the overall experience. So, here’s whether it deserves a spot on your desk or if you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Build Quality and Comfort

The HyperX Cloud Jet is available in two colour options: Black and Blue. The Black variant keeps things understated with an all-black finish, which most gamers will likely gravitate toward. The Blue version, on the other hand, adds some personality, but it pairs the blue accents with off-white ear cups. That design choice looks fresh out of the box, but the cups are more prone to collecting dust and grime over time. Surprisingly, there’s no red-accented version here, which has long been a signature element across many HyperX headsets.

The Cloud Jet uses an entirely plastic build. It feels reasonably solid in hand and doesn’t creak under normal use, but the material itself doesn’t come across as particularly strong. For a headset at this price, that’s understandable, but you do get the sense that this isn’t something you’d want to mishandle. It should survive everyday desk use without issues. However, if you’re someone who frequently tosses their headset into a backpack for LAN parties or travels with it loosely packed under heavier gear, the long-term durability could be a concern. But for most, this shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, as the headset usually doesn’t leave the desk.

The Cloud Jet doesn’t have a traditional adjustable headband, so it’s basically a one-size-fits-most kind of headset. Thankfully, the default fit works well. It sat comfortably on my head right out of the box and never really felt awkward or off-balance. I didn’t face fatigue even after 4 to 5-hour sessions.

But the lack of swivel on the ear cups is a real issue. You can’t rest it comfortably around your neck between matches. It doesn’t fold flat. It just stays locked in position all the time. That might not bother everyone, but for me, it became annoying very quickly. It makes the headset feel less practical in everyday use, especially if you’re constantly taking it on and off during long sessions.

Connectivity and Microphone Quality

All the controls and ports are located on the left ear cup. You get a power button, a USB Type-C port for charging, a rotating volume wheel, a dedicated toggle to switch between 2.4GHz receiver mode and Bluetooth, and a small LED indicator for status and charging.

The USB-A 2.4GHz receiver comes bundled in the box and works with PC, laptops, and the PS5. Setup is genuinely simple. Plug the receiver in, switch the headset to 2.4GHz mode, hold the power button, and it connects automatically. The LED on the receiver stops blinking once paired, and you’re ready to jump into a game within seconds. Bluetooth pairing is just as straightforward. Flip the toggle to Bluetooth mode, put the headset into pairing, and connect it like any other wireless audio device on your PC or phone.

The microphone sits on the left ear cup and comes with a flexible boom arm, so you can bend it closer to your mouth depending on how loud you tend to get mid-game. It holds its position well and doesn’t feel flimsy when you adjust it. You can also flip it upwards to mute. This is a feature I’ve appreciated the most, because now you don’t need to get into Discord to mute yourself.

As for quality, it’s actually pretty solid for this price. A few of my friends on Discord mentioned that my voice sounded clear and natural, and didn’t notice any weird compression or distortion either. I even used it for a couple of Google Meet calls, and it worked perfectly fine.

Audio Performance and Battery Life

I used the HyperX Cloud Jet across a mix of titles, including Split Fiction, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, EA Sports FC 26, Counter-Strike 2, and even went back to Gears of War 3 for a bit. Across all of them, I genuinely didn’t have any complaints about the audio tuning, clarity, or overall loudness.

The 40mm drivers do a solid job here. This isn’t a bass-heavy, V-shaped headset trying to impress you with exaggerated lows or piercing highs. The tuning feels fairly balanced. Footsteps are easy to pick up, dialogue remains clear, and nothing feels drowned out. In Counter-Strike 2, I could clearly hear someone running through Underpass when I was entering Window on Mirage. If you’re planning to use the Cloud Jet for movies or TV shows as well, it holds up pretty well. I watched a few episodes of Better Call Saul with it on, and the audio separation is clean.

There’s no ANC here, and compared to something like the Cloud Alpha, passive isolation isn’t as strong. The Cloud Jet uses breathable fabric ear cushions, so some outside noise does creep in. But in practical use, once you push the volume to around 50 to 60 per cent, it blocks out enough ambient noise to not be a bother.

HyperX claims up to 25 hours of battery life on the Cloud Jet. I didn’t sit down with a timer to measure it minute by minute, but in real-world use, the endurance has been solid. I managed to get through an entire week on a single charge, with a mix of longer 4 to 5-hour sessions and shorter ones in between. At no point did the battery feel like a concern. I wasn’t constantly checking the LED or worrying about it dying mid-match. So, I would say it has quite a reliable battery.

That said, the Cloud Jet doesn't offer a wired mode. Once the battery runs out, you're done until it's charged again. A simple 3.5mm jack would have added extra flexibility.

Should You Buy the HyperX Cloud Jet?

At Rs 4,999, the HyperX Cloud Jet makes a strong case for itself. The audio tuning is balanced and reliable, the microphone is genuinely good for both gaming and casual work calls, battery life is dependable, and the dual connectivity makes it practical across PC and PS5. It doesn’t try to be flashy, and honestly, it doesn’t need to.

That said, it isn’t perfect. The lack of swivel is something I found annoying, and the all-plastic build doesn’t exactly scream long-term ruggedness. But if you can live with those quirks, what you’re getting here is a well-tuned, comfortable wireless headset that does its core job properly.

For the price, it’s hard to complain. It’s not trying to reinvent anything. It just delivers where it matters most. And sometimes, that’s exactly what makes the HyperX Cloud Jet a bang for the buck.
