YouTube Down: Millions of Users Impacted as the Google-Owned Platform Faces Global Outage

Many YouTube users across several countries reported outages on Tuesday night, with problems affecting both the main platform and YouTube TV. Reports surged in the United States and India, while YouTube had not issued any public explanation or technical update about the disruption.

Downdetector, which tracks online service outages, showed heavy traffic as complaints rose worldwide. In the United States, around 283,490 people said late on Tuesday that they were unable to access one of the world’s largest video platforms, with reports describing app failures, website issues and login errors.

YouTube Down: Impact on Users in India

Indian viewers also experienced the YouTube down episode on Wednesday morning, as reports on Downdetector from India crossed 18,000 by 6:42 am IST. A large share of users said the mobile app stopped loading videos, while some flagged problems with live streams and other viewing features.

According to Downdetector data, 71% of reports from India mentioned the YouTube app. Another 18% pointed to live streaming glitches. Many people said the platform showed a 'something went wrong' message when they opened the app, preventing access to regular video content and subscriptions.

YouTube Outage: Breakdown of Reported Issues

In the United States, 56% of users logging complaints cited faults with the YouTube app. Another 21% reported trouble with the website itself, while 12% struggled to log in. YouTube TV drew 8,923 issue reports, and related Google services registered 2,694 problems on the same tracker.

Downdetector highlighted the television service separately, noting: "User reports indicate problems with YouTube TV since 8:13 PM EST," it said in a post on X. Despite the scale of the complaints, YouTube did not post any detailed clarification on the root cause or timeline.

While services faltered, users quickly shifted to X, sharing memes and brief reactions about the YouTube outage. Some asked if the platform was down at that moment, while others joked about disrupted routines. One comment on Downdetector captured the mood: "How am i supposed to eat dinner without youtube," a person said.
