Alleged Moto E5 image leaks showing rear-facing fingerprint sensor

Motorola could be prepping the Moto E5 with a rear-facing fingerprint sensor and 18:9 display, suggests the newly leaked image of the smartphone. And, the launch is expected to happen in April.

With the debut of the new year, we are just months away from the launch of many smartphones from different manufacturers. When it comes to Motorola, the company has a good foothold in the affordable market segment with its Moto E lineup. The Moto E smartphones are easy on the wallet but pack in good features and render great specifications making these devices a bang for your buck. Given that we are in 2018, we can expect the next-generation Moto E smartphones to be launched in the coming months.

Well, the next-generation model in the lineup could be the Moto E5 and the alleged device has appeared in a leaked image posted by MySmartPrice via Android Police. The image shows that the upcoming smartphone has strong similarities to its predecessor - the Moto E4 except for a notable change that is clearly visible.

This is the first leaked image of the Moto E5 that has surfaced online so far. Given that the device might be unveiled around mid-2018, we can expect more leaks and speculations to hit the web giving us hints about what we can expect from the device.

Circular camera ring

The image shows that there is a circular camera module at the rear housing the main camera sensor and the LED flash stacked vertically. It looks like there is no flash at the front of the smartphone. Also, such an arrangement for the primary camera with a circular ring is something that we have already seen on Motorola smartphones. The camera at the rear has a slight hump raising the module a little from the rear cover.

What’s new in Moto E5?

Well, the notable change in the Moto E5 appears to be the incorporation of a fingerprint sensor at its rear, suggests the leaked image. The Moto E4 has a front-facing fingerprint sensor embedded on its home button. There appears to be a dimple at the rear and this is claimed to be the fingerprint sensor. Also, it appears to double as the Motorola logo instead of having a separate one.

Specs to expect

The report goes on stating that we can expect the Moto E5 to arrive with a micro USB port instead of a USB Type-C port that is commonplace these days on smartphones. The screen appears to be a 5-inch one with 18:9 aspect ratio but the bezels do not appear to be too slim and this is acceptable as it will be a budget smartphone. The device is likely to support dual SIM cards as many other budget smartphones and make use of a MediaTek processor under its hood. We can also expect other standard features such as a 3.5mm audio jack and 4G VoLTE support.

Moto E5 alleged launch date

The clock widget on the Moto E5's home screen in the leaked image shows April 3, so the device might see the light of the day on the same date. If this happens, then the launch of the Moto E5 could be earlier than that of the Moto E4 as it was unveiled in June 2017.

How much would Moto E5 cost?

Having heard about the launch date and specs, the next speculation is about the Moto E5 pricing. We can expect the device to cost between $120 and $150 (approx. Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 9,500). From the previous launch pattern, we can expect the company to launch the Moto E5 Plus and E5 Play along with this device.
