Forget Smartwatches & Smart Rings! Lumia’s AI-Powered Smart Earrings Track Blood Flow and Sleep

Lumia has launched the Lumia 2, AI-powered smart earrings that track blood flow to the head and provide wellness insights related to focus, energy, fatigue, sleep, and cognitive performance. Developed with researchers from Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, and Harvard University, the technology is now positioned for everyday wellness use.

The Lumia 2 comes in huggie hoops, studs, and cuff-style designs with gold and silver finishes. The cuff model does not require ear piercings, while Lumia's patent-pending SwitchBack system allows the sensor to attach to standard push-back earrings.

According to Lumia, the wearable weighs less than one gram, making it one of the smallest wellness wearables available today. The company claims it is nearly five times smaller than Apple AirPods. Its in-ear positioning places the sensor closer to the brain and heart, enabling more accurate tracking compared to wrist- or finger-based wearables.

Lumia says its blood flow monitoring technology was clinically validated through studies conducted at Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Harvard, achieving a Pearson correlation score of 0.91 against ultrasound measurements.

Apart from blood flow tracking, Lumia 2 also offers sleep trend analysis, temperature monitoring, menstrual cycle awareness, and a daily readiness score. The company clarified that the device is not a medical product and does not offer disease detection, fertility tracking, or diagnostic functions.

The earrings are built using skin-friendly titanium and platinum materials and are designed for all-day wear, including workouts, showers, and sleep. Lumia has also introduced a swappable battery system that enables charging without removing the earrings, with each battery pack lasting up to one week.

Lumia 2 Price, Availability, and Funding Details

The Lumia 2 smart earrings support both iOS and Android devices and will initially launch in the U.S. and Canada at a price of $249. The company plans to expand globally at a later stage. Early access reservations are now live through Lumia's official website, while the device will also be available via Kickstarter. Existing Lumia 1 users can upgrade through the Edge Access Membership program.
