Google Testing Auto Dark Mode for Websites on iPhone and Minimised Custom Tabs Feature: Report
Google is testing a new Auto Dark Mode for its iPhone app, as reported by 9to5Google. This feature automatically switches to dark mode on websites that support it. The Google app, like a browser, allows users to browse the web and has AI capabilities through Gemini, Google's proprietary AI chatbot
The new Auto Dark Mode feature is currently in the testing phase and is not widely available. Users can access it through Google Search Labs, a program that lets users try experimental features.

Auto Dark Mode Feature in Testing: Report
Google stated, "Stay in dark mode no matter what website you are on. Turn on dark mode on your device to activate this experience so all the websites you visit match your app's dark theme." When enabled, Auto Dark Mode will apply to all supported websites.
However, it will not work on websites with an existing dark mode. Screenshots shared by 9to5Google show that the feature introduces a dark grey background instead of a pure black look. As this feature is in beta, Google noted, "Quality of the conversion to dark mode may vary. Experiment does not apply to websites with an existing dark theme."
Minimised Custom Tabs Feature in Testing: Report
Alongside the Auto Dark Mode experiment, Google has introduced a new feature called Minimised Custom Tabs on its Chrome browser for Android. Available with Chrome version 124, this feature turns tabs into small floating windows when minimised. A downward button on the top banner next to the website name activates this feature, converting the tab into a picture-in-picture (PiP) window.
Google's latest features, including Auto Dark Mode for iPhone and Minimised Custom Tabs for Chrome, reflect the company's continuous efforts to enhance user experience. These features are currently in the testing phase and available to early users. More updates are expected as the experiments progress.
