GPT-4 Turbo is Now Free with the Microsoft Copilot AI Chatbot: Here’s What’s New!

Microsoft has recently enhanced its AI chatbot Copilot by integrating OpenAI's latest GPT-4 Turbo model. This update, announced by Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of Advertising and Web Services at Microsoft, extends to both the free and Pro versions of Copilot.

While the upgrade was made without much public attention on March 12, it marks a significant improvement in the chatbot's capabilities, especially for Pro users who retain the choice to switch back to the previous GPT-4 model.

What's New with Copilot?

The transition to GPT-4 Turbo brings a notable expansion in the AI's knowledge base. Unlike its predecessor, which had information up to September 2021, the GPT-4 Turbo model is updated with data until April 2023.

This enhancement is particularly beneficial for queries about topics not easily found on the internet, promising more current and relevant responses. Moreover, the update isn't just limited to the Balanced mode of operation; Creative and Precise modes also now benefit from the advanced capabilities of GPT-4 Turbo.

This model, introduced by OpenAI in November 2023, boasts a vastly increased context window, capable of analyzing over 300 pages of text in a single prompt, far surpassing the previous 8,000-token limit of GPT-4.

Expanding the Horizon

Alongside enhancing Copilot, Microsoft is set to launch its Copilot for Security platform on April 1. This new addition aims to bolster security measures for enterprise customers. It integrates OpenAI's GPT-4 with Microsoft's security models, offering support in 25 different languages. This move further illustrates Microsoft's commitment to leveraging advanced AI to improve cybersecurity.

It's noteworthy that while Microsoft advances with GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI's native chatbot, ChatGPT, still operates on the GPT 3.5 AI model for its free tier. This highlights Microsoft's proactive approach in adopting and implementing the latest AI technologies to enhance user experience and security.

As Copilot adopts GPT-4 Turbo, users can expect a more refined and knowledgeable assistant capable of handling a wider array of queries with updated information. This upgrade, together with the forthcoming Copilot for Security, underlines Microsoft's strategic focus on integrating cutting-edge AI to serve its users better and secure its systems more effectively.
