iOS 18.1 Developer Beta Out: Brings Apple Intelligence AI Features, Call Recording and More

Apple has rolled out the iOS 18.1 developer beta, featuring new Apple Intelligence capabilities like enhanced Siri, AI call recording, and transcription tools. This update is currently available only to developers using eligible iPhone models.

Let's explore the top five features of this iOS 18.1 developer beta and the expected timeline for its stable release.

iOS 18.1 Developer Beta Out: Brings Apple Intelligence AI Features

Enhanced Siri UI and Features

The latest update introduces a new edge lighting animation when activating Siri. Users can now effortlessly switch between text and voice inputs during conversations with Siri. Additionally, Siri's improved context window allows it to better assist with iPhone-related queries. Even if users misspell or fumble words, Siri will still understand and follow the prompts accurately.

AI Call Recordings, Summary, and More

A notable addition is the ability to record calls by tapping a button on the call screen. These recordings are transcribed and saved in the Notes app, where users can also re-listen to them. A summary of the transcription is provided as well. All participants in the call will be notified about the ongoing recording.

Writing Tools

The Writing Tools feature offers options to rewrite, proofread, and summarise text across various iOS interfaces and apps like Mail and Notes. This makes it easier for users to enhance their written content directly within these applications.

Photo Tools

Users can prompt Apple Intelligence to search for specific photos in the Photos app or find particular moments from videos. Thematic prompts allow Apple Intelligence to curate related images and videos from the Photos app to create a story called Memories.

Moreover, Apple Intelligence will now prioritise important notifications that require immediate attention, helping users stay focused on what matters most without unnecessary distractions.

The iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 1 update is only available for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max - both models supporting Apple Intelligence. In addition to iOS 18.1, Apple has also introduced Developer Beta updates with Apple Intelligence features for iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

The first stable release of iOS 18 is expected in September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 16 series. However, full-fledged Apple Intelligence features may take until October to roll out completely.

This update brings significant improvements that enhance user experience through advanced AI capabilities and streamlined functionalities across various applications.
