iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26: These Apple Devices May Not Get the Update — Is Yours on the List?
Apple is gearing up for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), set to begin on June 9, and the spotlight this year is firmly on software. We're expecting official reveals for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26-but not every Apple device will make the cut.
According to multiple reports, some of Apple's older hardware will be dropped from the compatibility list, marking the end of software support for a few well-known iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

iPhones Reportedly Losing iOS 26 Support
If the leaks turn out to be accurate, three iPhone models won't be getting iOS 26:
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
These models, launched in 2018, are approaching the typical end-of-support window Apple usually follows. The decision makes sense from a hardware standpoint-Apple's recent updates are increasingly optimized for the latest chipsets and machine learning capabilities, especially with features like Apple Intelligence requiring more powerful processors and more RAM.
The iPad List: Only One Drops Off (For Now)
On the iPad front, things are a bit gentler. So far, only one device is expected to miss the iPadOS 26 update:
- iPad (7th generation)
This iPad, originally launched in 2019, still enjoys a decent user base, but Apple may be looking to streamline performance for newer models like the iPad 10th-gen and iPad Air with M1 chips.
macOS 26 May Phase Out Intel-Based Macs
The bigger wave of exclusions seems to be hitting the Mac lineup, particularly older Intel-powered machines. The following four Macs are expected to lose support:
- 2020 MacBook Air (Intel)
- 2018 MacBook Pro
- 2018 Mac mini
- 2017 iMac Pro
As Apple continues its transition to Apple Silicon, it's no surprise that Intel machines are slowly being pushed out of the picture. While these Macs have had a solid run, it looks like macOS 26 could mark their final OS update.
