After launching 'Locate', which is a People Tracking App for Windows Phone 8 in August, MapmyIndia today announced a new app called Explore, in India. The announcement is another step towards strengthening their relationship with Microsoft because even this app is compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices apart from other platforms.
Popular for its innovative social-navigation apps, digital maps, navigation and location-based services, MapMyIndia's latest Explore app is free. For Android users, ‘Explore' will soon make a debut on the Google Play store.
The app helps the users to find almost all the useful landmarks and places like ATMs, restaurants, petrol pumps, hospitals etc. around them. Apart from being a city guide the app has a social interface also. The users can pin favorite hangouts, rate and review popular places around their location and follow other "Explorers". See an activity feed of what others are doing on Explore.
Here are some of the features that Explore can offer you:
Search places and favorite them
The application has millions of places and landmarks you can look for which include restaurants, ATMs, hotels, hospitals and more. Users can then select and navigate to the respective destination and save frequent destinations as favorites.
Lists out MapmyIndia recommendations across three categories - eat & drink, places to see and places to stay with detailed place info and pictures. It has a showcase section that highlights some popular places.
Customisation and Social Interface
Users have an option of placing a location on the map. Moreover, they can even login with Facebook, pin places (which is marking a place as "been here"). Add photos, write reviews, follow other users and subscribe to places. Any such activity is posted on Facebook right away
Uses MapmyIndia Maps
The Explore app uses MapMyIndia maps database which the company claims to be accurate and comprehensive.
