Microsoft Paint Gets AI Enhancements with New Copilot Button: Here Are All the Details
Microsoft has unveiled a fresh Windows 11 Insider Preview build, introducing enhancements to the Paint app and Windows Search. This beta update is accessible to Windows Insider users on the Canary and Dev channels. The update brings AI features to Microsoft Paint via a new Copilot menu and enhances Windows Search with semantic indexing for OneDrive files. These updates are also available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs.
In a detailed blog post, Microsoft outlined the new features included in the Windows 11 beta update, part of the Insider preview build version 26120.3073 (KB5050090). Users can access these features through the Canary and Dev channels. However, Microsoft has not specified when these features will be available globally to all users.

AI Features in Microsoft Paint
Over the past two years, Microsoft has integrated several AI-driven features into the Paint app. The Cocreator feature allows users to generate AI images based on their doodles. Users can also adjust the level of AI enhancement applied to their drawings. Additionally, Image Creator enables text-to-image generation using user-selected prompts and art styles.
The Generative Erase feature in Paint lets users remove unwanted objects from images by generating and blending backgrounds seamlessly. Moreover, the Remove Background feature allows users to eliminate image backgrounds with a single click. With the latest update, these tools are now consolidated within a Copilot menu located near the toolbar's right side.
Enhanced Windows Search Functionality
Microsoft is expanding semantic indexing in Windows Search, which was first introduced last month in preview form. This natural language search capability now supports photos and files stored in OneDrive's cloud storage. However, this feature is exclusive to Copilot+ PC users.
The new Copilot menu in Microsoft Paint provides easy access to all available features with brief descriptions upon clicking the dropdown menu. It is important to note that the Cocreator feature is only accessible on Copilot+ PCs.
These updates reflect Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience by integrating advanced AI capabilities into its software offerings. By improving both Paint and Windows Search functionalities, Microsoft aims to provide more intuitive and efficient tools for its users.
