Nothing OS 3.0 Rolling Out to Phone (2) and (2a): Everything You Need to Know
Nothing has started rolling out its latest software update, Nothing OS 3.0, powered by Android 15. This new update brings a host of upgrades, from a refreshed design to smarter tools for customization and productivity.
The rollout begins with the Nothing Phone 2 and Phone 2a, with more devices set to receive the update in early 2025.

Fresh Design and Enhanced Widgets
One of the standout changes in Nothing OS 3.0 is the redesigned lock screen. Users can now choose from various clock styles and enjoy more space for widgets, making the lock screen more functional and personalized. Additionally, Nothing has introduced Shared Widgets, allowing users to share interactive widgets, such as photos, with friends and family directly on their home screen.
The widget library has also been revamped, offering seamless integration of Nothing's own widgets alongside third-party options. A Countdown Widget has been added to help users stay on top of their tasks and deadlines.
Smarter Multitasking and App Management
Nothing OS 3.0 makes multitasking easier than ever. The enhanced pop-up view allows users to resize and move app windows around the screen, keeping important apps accessible. Incoming notifications can now open in a pop-up view for quick interactions without leaving your current app.
The Smart Drawer is another productivity boost. Using AI, it automatically categorizes apps into folders, making them easier to find. Favorite apps can also be pinned to the top for quick access.
A More Functional Gallery and Quick Settings
The new Gallery app offers expanded tools for editing photos, such as filters and markup options, and improved search functionality to quickly find specific images. Quick Settings have also been redesigned, providing a cleaner interface and easier access to shortcuts.
Performance Upgrades and Subtle Touches
Beyond design updates, Nothing OS 3.0 focuses on performance. AI-powered features help manage frequently used apps, ensuring they run smoothly for longer. A new partial screen-sharing option allows users to record or share specific app windows rather than the entire screen.
Other enhancements include predictive back animations for smoother app transitions, an updated charging status display that shows charging speeds, and general UI refinements like updated visuals for network and Bluetooth connections. The update also comes with the latest December security patch.
How to Update
If you own a Nothing Phone 2 or 2a, you can check for the update by going to Settings > System > Software Update. The rollout is staggered, so not everyone will receive it immediately. Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and fully charged before installing the update.
What's Next
The update is expected to reach other models starting in early 2025, beginning with the Nothing Phone 1, and later extending to the Phone 2a Plus and CMF Phone 1.
