OnePlus Quietly Adds New AI Features to Select Nord Smartphones: Is Yours on the List?

OnePlus has recently introduced three new AI features on select smartphones: AI Speak, AI Summary, and AI Writer. These features were announced through a community post, and aim to improve user experience by leveraging artificial intelligence.

AI Tools for Enhanced Functionality

AI Speak: This feature reads aloud text from webpages and apps, such as articles in Google News. Users can adjust playback speed, skip sentences, replay specific sections, and even choose between male and female voices for a more personalized experience.

AI Summary: Struggling to digest lengthy articles online? AI Summary can help! This tool automatically generates concise summaries of online information, allowing users to quickly grasp the key points. Summaries can then be copied, shared with others, or saved for future reference. Additionally, users can save snippets of text directly to their file dock for easy access.

AI Writer: Feeling stuck while writing an email, social media post, or review? AI Writer comes to the rescue. This feature helps users generate text content within apps that support text fields. The generated content can be customized based on user needs, and users can even request regeneration if the initial output isn't quite what they were looking for.

Accessibility and Availability

All three AI features are accessible through a dedicated AI Toolkit integrated into the phone's sidebar. To utilize these tools, users need to enable the "Screen Recognition" feature located within Settings > Accessibility & Convenience.

Currently, these features are only available on two mid-range OnePlus phones: the OnePlus Nord 4 (available in various regions) and the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G (exclusive to India).

The reason for excluding flagship models from this initial rollout is unclear. It's possible this is a testing phase for OnePlus, allowing them to gather user feedback before a wider release. Alternatively, it could be a strategy to introduce new features on more affordable phones first.
