Samsung Galaxy S2 India: Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update Being Rolled Out

Finally Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean arrives for Samsung Galaxy S 2 smartphones in India. The smartphone which was released back in May 2011, came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread Android. The device got it's 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update back in May 2012 and now will be revamped to 4.1.2, skipping 4.1.1, all together. 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S2, started rolling out to countries around the world, in January 2013, starting from Spain.

The new improvements brought in by the Jelly Bean update would include, enhanced performance and stability with Project Butter, redesigned user interface similar to the UI in Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, new Features like Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play, new widgets (From Galaxy S3), 2 Home screen modes, new notification bar with more notification toggles, Google Now, TouchWiz Nature UX, Samsung's S Cloud services, Improved camera features and lastly, new lockscreen With many customization options.

 

Reportedly, Social Hub which is a push notification feature which allows users to receive emails, instant messages and SNS notifications instantly, has been removed due to compatibility issues. Polaris Office - which lets you create, edit and view work document , Photo Editor - app which allows users to apply effects to photos and Video Maker - an application, which allows users to custom-make their own videos, can be downloaded separately from Samsung apps.

The update will be rolled out OTA (over the air). Users can also apply the update via Samsung Kies desktop application. Don't be too worried, if you don't get the update right away, as it is being rolled out in phases. Therefore, a few might get it now, while others might get it latter. You can manually check the availability of the update via Settings > About > Software update. Samsung did say, the introduction of Galaxy S4 wouldn't necessarily mean that the previous models would be ignored. Galaxy S2 is still used by a wide range of customer and the company is living up to it's promise by delivering the goods to it's customers.
