Among all the mobile chip makers, last year Qualcomm did best. And if you look at all the major high end smartphones off late, you'll notice that all those smartphones will be powered by the chips from the same company. Moreover, to be precise, the company's Snapdragon 400, 600 and 800 have been a great success.
Now the same company has come up with an app called the Snapdragon Glance which can be referred as a "Lockscreen" app as well. But don't mistake it as the company's first in-house app because last year, it also released its Battery Guru (Beta) app whose functions are self explanatory.
The latest Snapdragon Glance app offers access to important information such as notifications, appointment, weather and others on your smartphone's lock screen. However, after installing the app, it will by default be the device's lock screen. And getting back to your regular homescreen simply requires a tap on the home or back button of the device. There is a setting, disabled by default, that will let you still go through your original unlocking security settings, making it feel like Snapdragon Glance is sitting on top of the lock screen instead.
Of all the features, viewing Calendar events, missed calls, SMS, Emails and other notification once you unlock the phone will become handy. You can also get a direct view of Time, Alarm and Weather updates easily on the lock screen. Moreover, you'll also get contacts and app suggestions based on your usage patterns on the lock screen itself. Also users will be able to add their favorite apps to the lock screen so that they can launch them quickly. The app will also provide you access to configure or customize your glance screen easily.
The app only supports devices powered by Snapdragon processors and has an odd requirements. Firstly, it is only compatible with devices running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above. However, the other one is even stranger since it requires Qualcomm's other Android app, Snapdragon BatteryGuru to be installed and running.
BatteryGuru analyzes your usage habits in the name of optimizing battery usage, provides Glance the data for determining which apps and contacts to suggest.
