Sonos Adds Spatial Audio and Multi-User Features to Ace Headphones via Software Update
Sonos is rolling out a software update for its first-ever headphones, the Sonos Ace, bringing new features like spatial audio, improved noise cancellation, and dual-headphone TV audio support.
The update comes roughly a year after the headphones first launched.

Software-Driven Improvements
The update introduces TrueCinema, a spatial audio feature that maps the user’s physical environment and adjusts playback to create a surround sound effect. Also included is an enhancement to TV Audio Swap, now allowing two people to listen to TV audio at the same time using their individual Sonos Ace headphones when connected to a Sonos soundbar.

Other changes are less visible but aim to improve daily use. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) has been upgraded to adapt in real time to potential sound leaks caused by glasses, hair, or headwear. Call quality is also being addressed with better voice clarity and a new feature called SideTone, which lets users hear their own voice during calls.
A Focus on Longevity
Jason White, Head of Software at Sonos, noted that software updates have been a long-standing part of the company’s strategy. “We’ve used meaningful updates to deliver new features to existing products,” he said, referencing previous upgrades like support for 24-bit audio and speech enhancements in other devices.
The Headphones Remain Unchanged Physically
The Sonos Ace headphones themselves remain the same in terms of design and hardware. Introduced in 2024, they feature a minimalist look and were designed to avoid trend-driven changes. According to Sonos, the goal was to make a product that stays relevant longer, supported by ongoing software improvements.
