Viber App For Android and iOS Gets Updated With Push To Talk and Sticker Market Feature
Instant messaging app, Viber has recently received a major update for both its Android and iPhone platforms to version 4.0 version. The update comes with a new revenue-earning Sticker Market which features more than 1000 stickers for free and for purchase, push-to-talk voice messaging, and support for Android tablets.
The new push-to-talk instant communication option will allow users to send short voice messages to each other. The app simplifies the typical PTT process which requires you to record a message before sending it, then wait for the recipient to download and play it. Viber users, instead, can cut the average 60-second response time to about five seconds.
Viber claims that its Push To Talk feature is significantly better than that of other messaging apps. It elaborates that typically, Push To Talk is a four-step process, with the user being required to record, send, download, and play.
However, Viber says it manages to do all four at the same time reducing the average response time to a 15 second message to 4-6 seconds. It's worth pointing out that popular messaging platform WhatsApp, WeChat and Voxer also have similar Push to Talk, feature.
On the other hand the new Sticker Market, enables the user to select cartoon images to express their emotions from a wide range of collection. Viber has also unveiled two new featured characters; Mayo and Blu, as well as exclusive content to tie into annual themes and holidays. Choose from more than 300 stickers priced at $1.99.
Now the Viber app will also work on Android tablet and works similarly to the desktop application. Features like carrying over mobile contacts and synchronizing messages and calls on all devices can be explored.
Those running Android 4.0 and up also have access to improved notifications, a Light Up Screen setting for incoming messages, and the ability to send messages while on a call.
Additional app updates include message forwarding to any group or contact, new conversation backgrounds, and group conversations with up to 100 participants.
