WWDC 2024: Siri Could Get Major AI Updates at Apple’s Annual Developer Conference

Apple's virtual assistant, Siri, is expected to be a highlight in the company's AI strategy at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) today. Reports indicate that Siri's main focus will be to enhance its ability to handle complex tasks more efficiently.

The virtual assistant might soon control several Apple apps through verbal. According to AppleInsider, Siri will be trained to understand commands in natural language.

This means users can give indirect prompts, such as "I'm feeling nostalgic," and Siri will respond contextually, like showing relevant pictures. This marks a significant shift in how Siri interprets and executes commands.

The AI enhancements are not limited to general improvements. Siri will reportedly gain new capabilities within several native Apple apps. These apps include Books, Calendar, Camera, Contacts, Files, Freeform, Keynote, Mail, Magnifier, News, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari, Stocks, System Settings, and Voice Memos.

With the upgrade, Siri will be able to open specific books or sections with a voice prompt. It can also change book themes, flip pages, and pause audiobooks. Users can search for categories in the Book Store, and show finished or downloaded books, and PDFs.

And There's More!

In the Camera app, Siri might change photography modes, add a timer, and switch between front and rear cameras. It remains uncertain if it can take pictures. In the Mail app, Siri may get Smart Replies, schedule emails, forward, undo send, save drafts, block senders, mark junk, unsubscribe from newsletters, summaries threads, mute, and delete emails.

For Keynote, Siri is expected to add media to slides, show specific slides, add themes, create slides, play and stop presentations, and manage text formatting. In the Photos app, Siri might also get the ability to open photos of specific people or pets, search for objects, add to albums, duplicate, rotate, move, hide photos, create memories, apply filters, and open editing mode.

Siri's potential upgrades also include offering transcriptions in the Notes app, setting reminders in the Reminders app, and summarizing articles in Safari. These features have yet to be officially confirmed by Apple and will be revealed at WWDC 2024.
