10 handy government apps every Indian should have

The advent of smartphones and the Digital India initiative has led to huge upheavals in the dynamic of how the government interacts with the citizens. The Digital India initiative has made available a wide range of government apps. More services are accessible for the people to use through their smartphones. The government routinely launches apps for services like digital payments and passport services as a part of its attempt to improve e-governance.

UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance)

This is an advanced and dynamic platform that brings together a wide range of Digital India services like Aadhaar, DigiLocker and PayGov. This app, developed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD)

mPassport

Information about the steps involved in obtaining a passport, the location of nearby Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) and Passport application status tracking are a few of the services provided by this app.

mAadhaar app

This app is exclusive to Android, for now. This app enables users to carry their Aadhar identity on their smartphones. You will be able to share your eKYC information with any service provider. Users also have the option of sharing their Aadhar profile via QR code.

Postinfo

Developed by Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology, this app from Department of Posts has a wide variety of features like tracking of parcels, post office search, postage calculator, insurance premium calculator and interest calculator.

MyGov

Ideas, suggestions and comments can be provided to ministries and associated organizations can be conveyed by the users to the government directly through this app. You can also participate in policy formulation and programme implementation through this app.

MySpeed(TRAI)

The TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is provided with information regarding data coverage and speeds, and location of the tests. This app does not send any personal user information.

mKavach (Mobile security solutions)

If you are looking for a way to block spam SMS or unsolicited incoming calls, this Android-exclusive app must be your go-to.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

Aimed to keep your surroundings clean, concerned municipal authorities can be contacted through this app and pictures relating to civic issues can be posted here. All urban local bodies have been linked to this app, which pinpoints the area of the complaint using the geo-location of the pictures.

Feedback can also be sent if their complaint isn't resolved.

BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money)

This Unified Payment Interface (UPI) can be used to carry out financial transactions digitally. UPI payment addresses, phone numbers or QR codes can be used to send or receive money as required.

The app is also linked to all major banks across the country to make financial transactions easier.
