Google first launched Nearby Share to let you move files between Android devices in 2020. Now the Android OS developer is bringing the much-needed, feature-rich tool to the Windows OS.

Google Nearby Share For Windows Out Of Beta, Available To All
Google's new Nearby Share feature is out of beta, and available for all Windows 10|11 users. Google aims to streamline the process of sharing files between an Android device and a PC running Windows OS.
Nearby Share is essentially Google's answer to Apple AirDrop but for Android. It lets users wirelessly share files with other Android devices close by.
Google has long back realized that it must make Nearby Share a true AirDrop alternative on Android. Hence, the company developed the feature for more than just Android phones.

Google expanded the wireless file-sharing feature to laptops running ChromeOS in 2021. At CES 2022, the company announced it will bring Nearby Share to Windows.
The long-awaited and long-delayed app finally debuted for non-Android devices, in a beta version in April 2023. Now, Nearby Share's official Windows app is out of beta.
How To Use Google Nearby Share For Windows?
Nearby Share's Windows app is available for download from the official Android website. Google is also partnering with HP to preload the Nearby Share app on its Dragonfly Pro series of laptops.
Any user with a 64-Bit version of Windows 10|11 OS can download and use Google Nearby Share. ARM devices are currently not supported.
The PC on which Nearby Share will be run must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for the wireless file-sharing service to work. Both devices have to be on the same network and within 5 meters of each other.
After downloading the app, install the same and run it. To transfer or copy data, simply drag and drop the file to send to the intended Android smartphone into the Nearby Share app on the PC.
Alternatively, users can right-click on the file and select the Nearby Share option from the contextual menu. If the file-sharing feature is enabled on the target Android device, it will automatically appear in the recipient list. Users need to accept the share request on their Android device for the file transfer process to start.
Although the tool may appear simple, easily transferring files from a PC to an Android device, wasn't possible. The Nearby Share platform for Windows makes it extremely simple for anyone to drop a file on an Android device.
With the first stable release of Nearby Share for Windows, Google is offering two key improvements. The Windows app will show an estimated transfer time so that users know approximately how long file transfer will take. The Windows PC will display a preview of a photo that is being sent to ensure the sender is sending the correct or intended file.
