Google Pay Launches Gemini AI Assistant and New SBI Flex Credit Card in India: Here's Everything That's New

Google has unveiled two major updates for Google Pay in India, introducing Ask Google Pay, a Gemini-powered AI financial assistant, and the new Google Pay Flex SBI Card in partnership with SBI Card.

Ask Google Pay Brings Gemini AI to Personal Finance

The biggest announcement is Ask Google Pay, a conversational AI assistant powered by Google's Gemini models. The feature is designed to help users better understand their finances through natural conversations.

Users can ask questions using text or voice in 10 Indian languages, making financial guidance more accessible across the country.

The AI assistant can:

• Analyse spending patterns
• Track savings and transaction history
• Provide personalised budgeting suggestions
• Explain financial concepts such as compounding interest, SIPs, and credit scores
• Help users understand the differences between India's tax regimes

Google says the feature is intended to simplify personal finance and make money management easier for everyday users.

Privacy Remains a Key Focus

Google emphasised that Ask Google Pay is entirely opt-in, with personalisation disabled by default.

The company also confirmed that:

• Transaction data remains within the Google Pay ecosystem
• Financial data is not shared with third-party apps
• User transaction history is not used to train Google's AI models

Since the feature relies on generative AI, Google advises users to verify important financial information before making decisions. The company also recommends never sharing passwords, PINs, or other highly sensitive information while interacting with the assistant.

Google Pay Flex SBI Card Announced

Alongside its AI assistant, Google also introduced the Google Pay Flex SBI Card, a new co-branded credit card developed with SBI Card.

The card is available through a completely paperless application process inside the Google Pay app and is built on the RuPay network, while also supporting Visa acceptance.

Rollout and Availability

Google says Ask Google Pay is currently rolling out to a limited group of users as part of an initial trial in India. Meanwhile, eligible users can apply for the Google Pay Flex SBI Card directly through the Google Pay app.
