Help Your Mom Go Cashless: Simple UPI & Digital Payment Apps She’ll Understand

On Mother's Day, we usually gift our moms flowers, clothes, or chocolates. But this year, how about giving her something that will help her every day? In today's world, digital payments are becoming more common. Most people no longer carry cash because using payment apps is quicker, safer, and more convenient, especially when travelling.

Carrying cash all the time can be stressful and risky. That's why teaching your mom how to use UPI and mobile payment apps can be a thoughtful and practical gift. Whether she's buying groceries, paying the maid, she can do it all with just a few taps on her phone. Don't worry if she's not tech-savvy, here we'll explain how you can teach your mom to use digital payment apps that she'll understand.

Help Your Mom Go Cashless: Simple UPI & Digital Payment Apps

How to Get Your Mom Started with UPI and Digital Payments

To get your mom started with UPI and digital payments, the first step is to download a user-friendly app like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm on her smartphone. These apps are secure and have simple interfaces that make them perfect for beginners. Before setting up the app, make sure her phone number is linked to her bank account.

Once the app is installed, open it and begin the registration process. You'll need to verify her phone number through an OTP (one-time password). The app will then automatically detect her bank account, so there's no need to enter long account numbers or IFSC codes.

After that, you'll be asked to create a 4- or 6-digit UPI PIN that she'll need to enter whenever she makes a payment. Make sure it's something easy for her to remember, and if she's worried about forgetting it, you can write it down and also remind her to never share it with anyone else.

Now show her how to use these apps. Start by teaching her how to send and receive money using her contact list or by scanning a QR code at any shop. You can begin with a small test payment through each step and let her try it herself. The more she uses it, the more comfortable she'll become.

Additionally, you can teach her how to recharge her phone directly through the app. Simply go to the recharge section, select her mobile operator, enter her phone number, and choose a plan that fits her needs.

UPI LITE

If your mom finds it hard to remember her UPI PIN or struggles with following too many steps to make a payment, UPI LITE could be a great option for her. With UPI LITE, she can make small payments without entering a PIN every time, making the process quicker and easier.

Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm now offer UPI LITE. To use it, she just needs to add some money to her UPI LITE balance. Once the amount is added, she can use it to pay at shops or vendors without needing to enter her PIN.

It's also worth noting that there is a daily limit for UPI Lite. For example, in PhonePe, users can add up to Rs 2000 to their UPI LITE balance and can make payments of up to Rs 200 or less at a time.
