Microsoft Copilot Integrated Into Teams Calls And Regular Chats For Generative AI Experience

Microsoft is integrating its Copilot into Teams audio calls and chat. Users will now have access to the Generative AI tool to quickly offer a summary of the call or carry out other tasks.

Microsoft 365 Copilot, a comprehensive virtual assistant based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now being extended to serve Microsoft Teams users. Let's look at the latest developments to see if or how this could significantly alter virtual meetings, calls, and the ability to schedule events, meetings, and more.

Microsoft Copilot Integrated Into Teams Calls And Chat Interface

Microsoft Teams To Get Microsoft 365 Copilot Feature

Microsoft Teams is one of the most feature-rich remote collaboration and office productivity platforms. It rivals Slack, and Google Workspace. It far outpaces Microsoft Skype.

Microsoft actively bundles Microsoft Teams into Microsoft 365, a complete office productivity suite that is run entirely from the cloud. The company could be facing a steep fine and legal action for this approach but that hasn't stopped the company from adding even more features to the Teams platform within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

Microsoft has announced that Teams users will be able to get access to the AI-powered Microsoft 365 Copilot feature. It will be available during calls and inside chat messages within Teams.

Microsoft calls it "Copilot for Teams". It will add a generative AI experience for real-time summarization or the ability to generate dates, names, and key points during calls. This should be useful for multiple employees and roles in the organization.

How Will Microsoft Copilot Help Teams Users

Microsoft Teams users who have to deal with multiple clients and track key dates and numbers that are being discussed on these types of calls can have Copilot quickly layout their timeline and plans. It can summarize the discussions and collate or highlight important points, targets, milestones, and other aspects.

In a blog post to explain the feature Microsoft attempted to explain the benefits of using Copilot in Teams:

"As the customer talks, Copilot summarizes the call and captures their relevant questions about the product features, benefits, and pricing. Copilot can also capture the customer's feedback and suggest the next steps. You can use this information when writing a follow-up email with supporting content and information to address the questions raised during the call."

Copilot is also integrated into Microsoft Teams chat. This allows users to extract and summarize key conversation points from chat threads.

Microsoft indicated this feature could work great for users who work across time zones. Users could get a quick summary of a conversation they missed overnight. This will make it easy to catch up on any conversations they may have missed.

Until today, users had to meticulously scroll back to catch up on the conversation. Copilot can also extract key information from a conversation. Users could quickly create lists, tables, schedules, and much more with the information.

Microsoft Copilot For Teams Will Be Available For $30 Per User Per Month

Microsoft Copilot in Teams chat and phone calls are available to Microsoft 365 Copilot early access program participants. However, Microsoft is offering access to only 600 customers before launching the feature commercially.

Microsoft has confirmed that Copilot For Teams will be priced at $30 per user per month over and above the price of the subscription to Microsoft 365. Simply put, access to the Generative AI platform does come at a rather steep premium.
