Schedule Voice, Video Calls On WhatsApp: After Share Screen, Popular Messaging App Takes On Teams, Google Meet
WhatsApp has deployed a new feature that allows users to schedule calls; Voice and Video. The world's most popular instant messaging app recently released another feature using which users can easily share their screens with others.
WhatsApp is fast turning into a productivity and remote collaboration tool, presumably with an aim of taking on Google Meet, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and other popular platforms. Let's see how the new features could help WhatsApp's owner Meta take on these established players with a massive user base.

How To Schedule WhatsApp Group Voice And Video Calls?
WhatsApp already offers the ability to make group voice and video calls. Users merely need to add members and place a call or make a call and add users who are in their contact or group list.
The same feature appears to have been amended with the ability to add a date and time. Essentially, the new scheduling feature in WhatsApp enables users to arrange and inform all other participants automatically about upcoming group calls on the platform.

To schedule a voice or video call in WhatsApp, tap the call button. Users will have the option to pick a call subject and choose the date for the scheduled call. Users can also decide whether they want to schedule a video or voice group call.
After making the choices about the time, subject, and nature of the call, tap "Send" and WhatsApp will then dispatch a message to the group. This message will be automatically inserted into the group chat.
At the receiving end, users who are in the group chat or individuals will be able to opt in or opt out of the scheduled call. Users who choose to opt in and participate in the WhatsApp voice or video call will receive a notification 15 minutes before the call begins.
Can WhatsApp Replace Remote Collaboration And Productivity Platforms?
During the pandemic, platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Zoom, and others grew in popularity. With "Work From Home", these platforms continue to remain useful.
Meta appears to have seen an opportunity to enter this field. With more than 2 billion active users, WhatsApp already has the largest group of active users among all the instant messaging platforms.
WhatsApp merely needs to add features that allow these users to collaborate and remain productive while being away from the office. Hence, it recently rolled out the screen share feature on video calls.
It is important to note that the scheduling feature is still experimental and available only to beta testers. However, the screen share feature was quickly rolled out to the general public. The same can be expected with the scheduling feature.
