Upcoming WhatsApp Features in 2024

WhatsApp is one of the most used apps with over 500 million active users just in India. The instant message app is constantly bringing features to enhance users' experience. Now, it is rolling out a few new features for both Android and iOS versions. Let's dive into the details.

Longer Voice Status Updates

The messaging app is working on a new feature under which you can post longer voice notes as a status update. The Long Voice Status feature allows users to share voice messages up to 1 minute long as status updates. Previously, voice notes were limited to 30 seconds. This update is accessible by long-pressing the microphone icon on the status update page.

It is now available to some users on both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp, providing a more flexible way for users to share their thoughts and updates. The feature will be rolling out to more users over the coming days.

Imagine

Imagine is an AI-powered feature that allows users to generate custom images using text prompts. This feature is built on Meta's Large Language Model and is available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.12.4). Users can access this feature through the attachment option within the app.

Currently, Imagine is limited to users with access to MetaAI chatbots. This includes regions such as the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and other selected areas.

AI-Powered Images

The messaging app is also working on a feature that will allow users to generate AI-powered profile photos in the future. This feature is now available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.24.11.17). It remains unclear if this is the same as Imagine or a separate feature.

New Color Chooser Tool

WhatsApp is working on a feature named color chooser tool for the drawing editor which will be available in a future update. This feature is currently under development.
