WhatsApp Gets Single-Vote Polls, And Optimizes Photo, Docs Sharing With Captions

Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced new updates to its polls and media-sharing features. While one of the updates is intended to make group chats more productive, the other one will allow sharing photos with captions easily.

WhatsApp has announced a couple of new features. These are essentially updates for existing features. There's a new feature that allows users to forward media and documents with captions.

WhatsApp Allows Single-Vote Polls And Adds Features

WhatsApp has delivered three new updates for the polls feature. The instant messaging platform introduced the Polls feature in November 2022, but it was limited in function and allowed users to pick multiple options.

The newly added functions allow the Polls feature to help WhatsApp groups collect information and make collective decisions. Moving ahead, poll creators can restrict the number of times and the choices for respondents.

The new functions and features added to WhatsApp Polls are as below:

Create Single-Vote Polls: WhatsApp has added a new option to prevent poll respondents from choosing multiple options. By turning off the "Allow Multiple Answers" option when creating a poll, poll creators can limit each voter to one vote only.

Search for Polls in Chats: WhatsApp has added a new filter for messages. Similar to the ones for photos, videos, or links, poll creators and even respondents can press Search on the Chats screen and then Polls to see a list of all results.

Stay Updated on Poll Results: WhatsApp will now also send notifications to the poll creators when their polls receive votes. They will also be able to view the total number of votes and easily monitor the responses. To use this feature, head over to the Chats screen, tap Search, and then Polls to find a list of all results.

WhatsApp Now Allows Forwarding Photos And Documents With Generated Captions

WhatsApp users regularly share photos with their friends and family. Many of these messages are received with captions. However, while forwarding such photos or documents, the captions they arrived with, are simply abandoned.

WhatsApp has now allowed sending captions for forwarded media. It has added a new option to Keep, Delete or Rewrite the captions when forwarding media that a user has received. Moving ahead, users can also add a caption to photos and videos when they forward them, if the content was received without a caption.

A blog post from WhatsApp announcing this feature, mentioned, "Just like when sharing images or videos, the documents you share may require a little explanation. Whether it's when sending a newspaper article or a work-related document, now you have the option to add a caption before sharing."

These updates have started rolling out to users globally. However, as the updates are staggered, some WhatsApp users may receive these features sooner than others. Still, as these updates have been sent out for the stable version of WhatsApp, they will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
