WhatsApp Incognito Chat Explained: Private Meta AI Sessions with Auto-Delete
WhatsApp has announced a new privacy-focused feature called Incognito Chat with Meta AI, giving users a way to interact with the AI assistant in temporary and private sessions. The feature is designed for conversations involving sensitive topics such as personal issues, finances, health, or work-related queries.
According to Meta, these chats are not stored after the session ends and will begin rolling out to WhatsApp and the Meta AI app over the coming months. The company says the feature is powered by its new Private Processing system, aimed at keeping AI interactions secure and inaccessible even to Meta itself.

How Incognito Chat Works on WhatsApp
Incognito Chat opens a separate AI session inside WhatsApp that can only be accessed by the user. Messages disappear automatically after the conversation ends, and the chat does not retain context for future interactions. Unlike standard AI chats that may save history to improve responses, every Incognito Chat session starts fresh.
Meta says the feature uses a protected processing environment isolated from its own servers. This means the company claims it cannot read user prompts or AI-generated replies while the interaction is taking place. The chats also remain encrypted throughout processing, adding another layer of privacy for users.
Meta's Private Processing Technology Explained
According to Meta, the Incognito Chat feature is built on its Private Processing infrastructure, which is designed to handle cloud-based AI requests without exposing personal data. The system reportedly hides identifying information such as IP addresses and avoids storing chat records after the session closes.
The company says this approach extends the privacy-first philosophy of end-to-end encryption to AI-powered tools that normally require cloud computing. By preventing long-term storage and limiting access to the conversation, Meta aims to make AI interactions feel more secure for users discussing sensitive subjects.
Side Chat With Meta AI Also in Development
Meta also confirmed that it is working on another feature called Side Chat with Meta AI. This upcoming tool is expected to provide private AI assistance within existing conversations without revealing the content of those chats. While the company has not shared a release timeline yet, Side Chat appears to be part of Meta's broader effort to make AI features more privacy-focused across its platforms.
