WhatsApp Web Gets Phone Number Link: Here’s How To Use The New Feature
Meta has started allowing WhatsApp users to gradually detach the instant messaging platform from its smartphone apps and allow it to function independently. Users will now be able to use WhatsApp primarily on a computer via the WhatsApp Web platform.
Several WhatsApp users are gradually receiving a new feature that allows linking WhatsApp Web with a phone number. This facility wasn't available previously as WhatsApp allowed account creation using a phone number via its smartphone app only.
Link Account And Phone Number To WhatsApp Web?
WhatsApp has traditionally been a smartphone-only instant messaging platform. However, Meta, the company that owns the instant messaging platform, also offers a simple website to access and use the same.
WhatsApp for Web offers all the features that are available in the WhatsApp app for iOS and Android smartphones. However, it was never truly detached or was able to function independently.
Moving forward, Meta could allow WhatsApp users to use the instant messaging platform independently of its smartphone apps. Some users have started receiving a new feature that will enable them to link their account to WhatsApp Web using their phone number instead of a QR code.
How To Link WhatsApp Web With Phone Number
Until recently, WhatsApp users had to scan a QR code that appeared on the WhatsApp Web website to quickly and securely sync their accounts with the web-based platform.
However, the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.14.1.72 update from the TestFlight app has a feature that makes it possible to link an account to WhatsApp Web by using a phone number.
Users who wish to test the feature need an iPhone and the latest beta version of WhatsApp from the TestFlight app. They need to open the linked devices screen and tap on the "Link with Phone" number option.

Users who choose to go forward will be prompted to enter an 8-character code generated by WhatsApp Web. When users get this code into their registered phone number, they complete the process and will be able to use WhatsApp Web.
Millions of WhatsApp users have been quickly but temporarily syncing their accounts with WhatsApp Web. However, the new "link with phone number" feature can be helpful in certain circumstances.
Users who couldn't scan the QR code presented by the WhatsApp Web platform could not use WhatsApp on a desktop or laptop. Moreover, the feature allowed users to temporarily use WhatsApp, as it mandated scanning the QR code occasionally.
It is important to note that this feature only works with WhatsApp Web and not on another smartphone. Moreover, it does not allow linking the WhatsApp account to a secondary mobile device using just the phone number.
Simply put, a WhatsApp account can now work independently on a smartphone and multiple computers. However, it still needs the WhatsApp app for registering an account that is tethered to a smartphone and a phone number.
