You Can Now Download Instagram Reels: Here’s How

In a recent update, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced a global expansion of the Reels download feature, allowing users across the world to save public Reels directly to their devices. This move follows a successful beta testing period and the initial rollout in the United States back in June.

Mosseri shared the news on his Instagram broadcast channel, emphasizing that users can now tap into the share button and select the download option to store a reel in their device's camera roll. The downloaded Reels will feature an Instagram watermark, showcasing the account name of the original poster, akin to the watermark seen on TikTok videos.

Privacy Controls and Settings

To safeguard content creators' work, Instagram has introduced privacy controls for Reels downloads. Account owners have the flexibility to disable downloading for their Reels by navigating to Settings > Privacy > Reels and Remix and toggling the "Allow people to download your Reels" option.

Audio Considerations

It's important to note that Reels using licensed audio clips will not include audio in the downloaded version. Only Reels with original audio tracks will preserve sound in the downloaded clip.

Global Availability

This global rollout comes as part of Instagram's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and keep pace with evolving social media dynamics. The platform, much like others in the industry, is adapting features akin to its counterparts to meet user expectations.

Comparison with Other Platforms

The move follows a broader trend in the industry, with platforms like TikTok implementing similar download functionalities.
