After Elon Musk's Grok, Meta Will Soon Allow Realtime AI Voice Chat On WhatsApp

WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new feature which will allow users to initiate real-time voice chats with Meta AI. This feature is currently available to some beta testers and is expected to be available for more users in he coming weeks.

According to wabetainfo, WhatsApp is now testing this feature, which will allow users to interact with Meta AI through a dedicated voice interface. The shared screenshot reveals, some beta testers can now explore a brand-new interface designed specifically for interacting with Meta AI through voice.

When users open the Meta AI screen from the Chats tab, they'll see a waveform icon that allows them to start a voice chat. If you want WhatsApp to start voice chats with Meta AI automatically when opening it from the Chats tab, you can enable this option in the voice preferences. This feature is turned off by default, giving users full control over how they interact.

Additionally, users can initiate voice chats with Meta AI directly from the Calls tab without requiring any taps. WhatsApp will also include a "collapse" icon, allowing the voice chat to run in the background while users switch to other apps.

For instance, you could open the Notes app to read something aloud, and Meta AI would listen and offer real-time feedback. Similarly, while browsing the web, you can ask the AI to explain complex terms or summarize text. During these conversations, users can mute their microphone at any time.

You can also manually end the voice session whenever you wish. The voice chat can be ended by tapping the "X" button and returning to the main Meta AI chat, or by switching to text mode. This upcoming feature will remove the hassle of typing and make conversations feel more natural and efficient. The same feature is already available on Elon Musk's Grok AI, which also supports real-time voice conversations.
