Apple Cuts App Store Fees in China to 25% for Developers

Apple has announced that it will reduce its commission rates for developers on the App Store in mainland China following discussions with the country's regulators. The updated commission structure will take effect on March 15, 2026, and will apply to the China mainland storefront on iOS and iPadOS devices.

App Store China commission rates for standard purchases

Under the revised policy, the commission rate for standard Apple In-App Purchase (IAP) transactions and paid app downloads will be reduced to 25 percent, down from the previous 30 percent rate. This change aims to provide more favorable conditions for developers distributing apps in the Chinese market.

Additionally, the commission rate for qualifying Apple In-App Purchase transactions under the App Store Small Business Program and the Mini Apps Partner Program will drop to 12 percent, compared with the current 15 percent. The same 12 percent commission will also apply to auto-renewing subscriptions after the first year.

Apple noted that developers do not need to sign updated terms by March 15 to receive the benefits of these reduced commission rates. The changes will automatically apply starting on the effective date.

In a statement, the company said that iOS and iPadOS should offer a strong app ecosystem and business environment for developers in China. The company says it remains committed to clear, consistent terms and App Store pricing in China that does not exceed overall levels in other regions.

The move comes as global regulators continue to examine app store policies and developer fees, prompting companies like Apple to adjust their business models in certain regions.
