Circle to Search is Getting a New Crop and Share Feature for Android Users

Circle to Search, a visual lookup feature introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, has received an update. Google recently announced a new crop and share function for this tool, which is now reportedly being rolled out to users. This feature will be available on all compatible Android devices, allowing users to quickly take and share screenshots.

According to 9to5Google, the new feature was spotted on an unnamed Android device. Screenshots taken using this method are not saved unless shared with others. Users can activate Circle to Search by long pressing the home button on their Android device. After activation, they can use the lasso tool to select either the entire screen or part of it.

Circle to Search Expands Compatibility

Once a selection is made, the screenshot can be shared directly via third-party messaging apps, Bluetooth, and other similar applications. Users also have the option to upload the screenshot to Google Photos or save it in Google Keep using the share sheet. However, smaller images may have lower resolution, making them less effective for saving directly to the device.

Google's announcement of this feature came earlier this month in a Gemini-related blog post. The post also introduced a new Gemini feature called 'Ask about this screen.' When Gemini is opened over another app, this option appears above the floating Gemini window, allowing users to ask AI queries about the screen content. A similar feature called 'Ask about this video' lets users inquire about YouTube videos.

Circle to Search Now Available on More Devices

In addition to its availability on newer devices like the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung has rolled out Circle to Search for other models as well. The Galaxy S21 FE now supports this feature. Initially reported to be available only in Asia, it has since expanded to regions such as the US and Canada. The Galaxy A series also supports Circle to Search.

The rollout of Circle to Search across various devices signifies Google's commitment to enhancing user experience through innovative features. By enabling quick and easy sharing of screenshots without saving them first, users can streamline their interactions and communications more efficiently.

This update reflects Google's ongoing efforts to integrate advanced functionalities into everyday tools, making technology more accessible and user-friendly for everyone.
