Facebook And Twitter Accept Some Apps Access Personal Information
Data breach is not new to Facebook and Twitter. But now it has been reported that both Facebook and Twitter have accepted that the data of many users were accessed by third-party apps on the Google Play Store, once they logged into those apps.
In fact, security researchers pointed out that there are two development kits. The One Audience and Mobiburn kits are accessing users' data, tweets, and email addresses report IANS. According to the report, both Facebook and Twitter also notified this issue and intimated that they will check whose data was shared through these apps.
"We recently received a report about a malicious mobile software development kit (SDK) maintained by One Audience. We are informing you about this today because we believe we have a responsibility to inform you of incidents that may impact the safety of your personal data or Twitter account," said in a statement.
Twitter also informed that this issue is not related to a vulnerability in its software. In addition, the company has already informed Google and Apple about these Software Development Kits. The report also states that earlier, Facebook revealed that there are 100 app developers that are accessing users' data for months.
It is also worth mentioning that these apps are video streaming apps and social media management. The company has issued a statement regarding the incident and said, "After investigating, we removed the apps from our platform for violating our platform policies."
Besides, Facebook pointed out that it has already issued cease and desist letters against both SDK's i.e One Audience and the Mobiburn. Apart from that, the company is also planning to notify the affected users. However, there are chances that iOS users are not affected by this data breach.
