Galaxy AI Features will be Free Until 2025: Samsung Confirms Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked 2024
With the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung unveiled Galaxy AI, aiming to enhance user experience through AI-based tools. This technology allows users to translate audio or text in real-time, search the internet by circling objects, and summarise webpages. Currently, these features are free but may not remain so indefinitely.
The company recently confirmed that Galaxy AI features will be free until the end of 2025 on supported devices. The company hinted that charges for using Galaxy AI might start in 2026. Although not confirmed, there is speculation that a paid version called "Galaxy AI+" could be introduced in 2026 while basic features might stay free.

Key Features of Samsung Galaxy AI
Several generative AI-based virtual assistants like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google's Gemini were initially free but later introduced paid versions with additional capabilities. Samsung's approach seems to follow this trend.
The Circle to Search feature, co-created with Google, allows users to perform searches by pressing the home button long. Users can circle or highlight anything on the screen to see search results. This feature simplifies finding information quickly and efficiently.
The Chat Assist feature helps users make conversations by suggesting appropriate replies and phrases. It also provides real-time message translation in 13 languages, making it easier to communicate across different languages seamlessly.
Global Showcase of Galaxy AI
The South Korean tech giant is showcasing Galaxy AI capabilities by opening seven Galaxy Experience Spaces globally. These spaces aim to demonstrate how Galaxy AI can enhance everyday tasks and improve user interaction with their devices.

The Interpreter feature functions as a translation tool for conversations with people who speak different languages. It translates live conversations with a split-screen view, allowing both parties to read the translated text and can also operate without internet connectivity.
The Photo Assist feature helps users enhance their photography with the help of the Generative Edit tool. This tool lets users enlarge photos or edit them to make them look better, providing a more polished final image.
Aligns with Industry Trends
"Notably, several generative AI-based virtual assistants, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or Google's Gemini, were initially announced for free," said Samsung. "However, their paid versions later arrived with additional capabilities."
Samsung's move towards potentially introducing a paid version of Galaxy AI aligns with industry trends where initial free offerings evolve into premium services over time. This strategy allows users to experience basic functionalities before opting for advanced features at a cost.
As Samsung continues to innovate with its AI tools, users can expect more enhancements and possibly new features that will further integrate into their daily lives. The company's focus on improving user experience through technology remains evident in its latest offerings.
