Google Brings AI Image Generation to Docs With Gemini’s Imagen 3: How to Use?
Google is taking another step forward in its integration of AI into everyday tools by bringing Imagen 3, its advanced image generation model, into Google Docs.
This new feature aims to make document creation more dynamic and less time-consuming by allowing users to generate custom images directly within their files.

Streamlining Image Creation in Google Docs
Adding images to a document often means hunting down visuals that fit your content, only to spend extra time resizing, cropping, or editing to make them work. With the Imagen 3 integration, Google Docs offers a solution. Instead of searching for external images, users can now generate visuals on the spot using AI.
Here's how it works:
- Go to Insert > Image > Help me create an image.
- Enter a description of the image you want.
- Customize its aspect ratio and size to ensure it fits perfectly into your document.
For users in Docs' pageless mode, the option will appear as Insert > Cover image > Help me create an image.
The tool also allows for creative flexibility with multiple styles, including Photo, Vector Art, Sketch, Watercolor, Cyberpunk, or a random "I'm Feeling Lucky" option that adds a touch of surprise to the design process.
A Feature for Paid Subscribers
As with many of Google's advanced AI tools, this feature won't be available to everyone. Image generation with Imagen 3 is limited to paid plans, including:
- Gemini Business
- Gemini Enterprise
- Gemini Education and Education Premium
- Google One AI Premium
If you're subscribed to one of these plans, you'll see this feature roll out in the coming weeks. For now, Google hasn't provided a precise timeline for its availability.
Why It Matters
This new capability addresses a common frustration: finding the right image and making it work for a document. By allowing users to generate images directly within Google Docs, the integration of Imagen 3 streamlines workflows and eliminates the need for additional editing tools.
Whether you're a student adding visuals to a project or a professional preparing a report, the ability to generate custom images tailored to your needs can save time and make your work look polished.
