Google’s Gemini AI App Could be Heading to the iPhone: Spotted on the Apple App Store
Google is reportedly testing a new standalone app called "Google Gemini" for iOS users. This app has been noticed on the Apple App Store, providing direct access to Gemini Live-a feature not yet available on iOS. This follows the broader release of Google Gemini Live on Android devices, which began in August.
A Reddit user, u/lostshenanigans, shared screenshots of the app's features that are not currently available in the existing Google app integration. One notable feature is Gemini Live, which allows users to interact with the AI assistant using voice commands. Presently, this feature is exclusive to Android devices, making its potential iOS release noteworthy.

Limited Availability and Beta Testing
Currently, only one user in the Philippines has accessed the app, and it remains unavailable in most regions, including the US. This suggests that Google is conducting a beta test in select locations to gather feedback and resolve any issues before a wider launch. The standalone app aims to provide iPhone users with a more streamlined AI assistant experience.
The app was initially launched a week ago with version 1.2024.4330807 and has since been updated to v1.2024.4330809. Google has not officially announced this standalone app, so its full release date remains unknown. However, this leak indicates Google's active exploration of offering a richer Gemini experience for iOS users.
Uncertain Future for Current Integration
It remains unclear whether this new app will replace the current integration within the Google app or if both options will coexist. Additionally, it's uncertain which iPhone models and iOS versions will fully support the Live Activities feature.
If the beta proves successful, iPhone users could soon have access to a powerful new AI assistant tool. The potential availability of Gemini Live on iOS marks a significant development for Apple device users seeking enhanced AI interaction capabilities.
