Google Introduces AI-Powered Feature to Automatically Summarize Lengthy Emails or Threads

Google has introduced a new AI-powered feature in Gmail as part of its May update for Google Workspace. This enhancement includes summary cards for lengthy emails or threads, providing users with context at the top of the email. These summaries are generated using Gemini AI. Additionally, Google Chat, Docs, and Meet have received new AI features.

Previously, Gmail users needed to open an email and click the Gemini icon to view an AI-generated summary. Now, with the latest update, Gemini automatically identifies emails needing summaries and displays them at the top. The summary updates when replies are added to the thread. Users can collapse these summaries if they find them unnecessary.

AI Enhancements in Google Chat

Google Chat has also been enhanced with new features. Gemini now summarises messages in the home view, helping users identify important messages quickly. This feature supports English, Spanish, and six other languages. Additionally, Gemini can summarise shared Workspace files like Docs or Slides, allowing users to see a brief overview before opening them.

In Google Docs, a new AI feature called the summary building block has been introduced. When Gemini generates a document summary, users can place it at the top for easy context understanding. The summary updates with each document edit to reflect changes.

Dynamic Layouts in Google Meet

Google Meet now offers dynamic layouts with options for "room" and "individual" tiles. The room tile is suitable for displaying multiple participants on one device, while the individual tile highlights a single participant's face.

Airtel customers using Wi-Fi and postpaid services now receive a complimentary Google One plan. Moreover, Google's 'Help Me Write' tool in Gmail will soon support additional languages.
