Google 'Shield Email' Feature in Development to Combat Spam: Report

Google is reportedly developing a new Gmail feature called "Shield Email'', which will provide users with a temporary email address to share with third parties while keeping their personal email private.

Android Authority first spotted this feature in the latest Android Gmail app version. The publication also mentioned that ''tapping this option currently redirects us to an empty page on myaccount.google.com''.

The "Shield Email" feature forwards emails received at the temporary address to the user's main inbox. This allows users to manage their emails effectively and avoid spam. If users decide they no longer want emails from the temporary address, they can simply discard them instead of relying on spam filters.

Potential Limitations of 'Shield Email'

Google's "Shield Email" is said to only support incoming emails, not outgoing ones. Additionally, a screenshot within Autofill with Google suggests that users could have the option to create multiple "Shielded Emails" simultaneously, enhancing this feature's flexibility.

Currently, "Shielded Email" is just found through text references in the Gmail app. Google has not officially confirmed this feature. Therefore, it's uncertain if it will be fully developed and released.

Moreover, Google recently enhanced the functionality of Gemini in Gmail by integrating it with Google Calendar. This new feature allows Workspace users equipped with specific Gemini add-ons to utilize AI capabilities directly within Gmail for managing their calendars.

This is available for Google Workspace customers with these add-ons -- Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium.

Through this integration, users can generate queries related to their calendar, such as setting up meetings or adding tasks, directly from Gmail's web interface. This advancement is aimed at streamlining task management and scheduling directly from the email client, marking a significant step in enhancing productivity tools with AI.
