WhatsApp is rolling out a new bill payment service in India, allowing users to pay everyday utility bills without leaving the messaging app. The feature is designed to simplify recurring payments by bringing multiple household expenses into one platform.

WhatsApp Bill Payments Arrive in India: How to Use

How to Pay Bills on WhatsApp

Users can access the new payment option directly from WhatsApp's main interface. Here's how the process works:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone.

Step 2: Tap the ₹ (rupee) icon in the top navigation bar.

Step 3: Select the type of bill you want to pay.

Step 4: Choose your service provider or biller from the available options.

Step 5: Enter the required account number or customer identifier.

Step 6: WhatsApp will fetch the outstanding bill amount associated with the account.

Step 7: Select your preferred payment method and complete the transaction.

Once an account is added, biller details are saved within the payments section for easier access during future transactions. Users can also manage multiple accounts with the same provider, making it possible to pay bills for their home, office or family members.

WhatsApp Supports Multiple Payment Options

WhatsApp will allow users to complete bill payments through UPI, debit cards and credit cards. The payment process is handled within the app, reducing the need to switch between separate banking or bill-payment applications.

The feature adds to WhatsApp's growing range of transactional services in India, which already includes offerings such as metro ticket bookings and public-service chatbots.

The WhatsApp bill payment feature is being rolled out gradually and is expected to reach Android and iOS users across India over the coming weeks.
