Hum It, Find It! YouTube Music Now Lets You Search for Songs by Singing or Humming
YouTube Music is rolling out a new way for Android users to find songs. This latest feature adds a "Song" tab to the search function, allowing users to hum, sing, or play a melody to identify a track.
This tool, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), compares the user's input with the original recording to find a match. Unlike its competitor Spotify, YouTube Music does not automatically add identified songs to a playlist, offering a unique twist to song discovery.

How It Works
The process is straightforward. Users can access this feature by tapping the search icon located in the top-right corner of the app or by pressing a dedicated button next to the voice search option. This development is a nod to the much-missed song identification feature of Google Play Music and is supported alongside existing options in Google Assistant, Google Search, and Now Playing on Pixel devices.

To utilize the Song Search feature, users should follow these steps:
- Launch the YouTube Music app.
- Hit the search icon.
- Select "Search a Song".
- Hum, whistle, or sing the tune for 10-15 seconds.
- Review the list of potential song matches provided by YouTube Music.
At the moment, this feature is being tested on Android devices, with hopes to bring it to iOS later on. Not all users and devices can access it yet, but availability is increasing gradually. Although I've updated my YouTube Music app, I still don't have this feature. It might take a few weeks before everyone gets it.
Searching for a song by humming isn't new. Google Search added this feature in October 2020. Pixel phones can identify background songs with Now Playing since 2017, but they can't recognize humming.
With over 100 million subscribers to YouTube Music and Premium combined, this feature is likely to enhance the overall user experience.
