Instagram Edits Launched for iOS and Android to Compete with TikTok’s CapCut

Instagram has introduced a new video editing application called Edits, aiming to compete with TikTok's CapCut. Available for free on both iOS and Android, Edits offers creators tools for managing projects, tracking ideas, and analysing video performance. It also includes advanced features like AI animations from static images, green screen replacement, and subject cutouts.

The introduction of Edits comes after its initial announcement in January. Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, noted the similarities between Edits and CapCut but emphasised that Edits is tailored more for creators than casual users. He mentioned on Threads that it will eventually differ significantly from CapCut by offering a broader range of creative tools.

Advanced Features in Edits

Edits provides innovative tools not available in the standard Instagram app. These include AI-generated animations from still images and green screen replacements. Such features are designed to enhance the creative process for users who require more sophisticated editing capabilities.

While TikTok's CapCut is a standalone editing tool from ByteDance, Instagram's Edits was announced when TikTok and CapCut were temporarily removed from US app stores. This timing suggests Meta views CapCut as a direct competitor in the video editing space.
