Instagram now adds active status feature in its app: Do we need it?
Instagram has provided an option to opt-out from having your activity status visible to everyone.
Popular photo-sharing app Instagram has added a new feature that shows the activity status of the users in direct messages. To put it in simple words all of your followers or friends will now be able to see when was the last time you were active in the app. And of course, you can also see the status of your friends at the same time. The feature has been added with the latest updates for both Android and iOS versions of the app.
Well, this is a feature we may not have asked for but anyway the app has added it and now if you visit the app, it displays a line stating the last time your followers or friends were active on the platform directly underneath the username. It is currently only visible in direct messages. If you can relate, this is similar to the feature that Facebook had added to its Messenger app a long time ago.
However, Instagram has done one thing right. The good thing about this feature is that it can be disabled. Instagram has provided an option to opt-out from having your activity status visible to everyone.
How To Deactivate Instagram Activity Status Feature?
To deactivate this feature you just have to follow these simple steps.
- Open the app and head to your profile and go to the Settings page.
- Once there you need to scroll down until you reach the 'Show Activity Status' tab.
- So, here you can toggle off the feature by swiping left.
Notably, if you turn off this feature you won't be able to see the active status of your followers or your friends as well.
What do you think of this feature? Do we really need it or Instagram should come up with some other interesting features? Do let us know in the comments.
Meanwhile, Instagram seems to be planning to bring in some more new features to its app. Just yesterday we heard that the app was testing a new feature called 'Type' in Stories that will seemingly allow users to post Instagram Stories without photos or videos and only text. This feature is said to be rolled out to all the users globally in the coming weeks.
Apart from this, Instagram is also said to be working on another Stories feature where users will be able to share their Instagram Stories directly on WhatsApp.
