Instagram Plus Is Now Live in India: Here's What the Paid Tier Offers

Instagram has launched a paid subscription called Instagram Plus, and it's rolling out globally starting today. The free version of Instagram isn't going anywhere, but if you want extra control over your stories, profile, and how your content reaches people, this is the upgrade Meta's been building toward.

What Instagram Plus Actually Is

It's an optional paid tier that adds a set of features on top of the regular Instagram experience. Nothing about the free app is changing. Instagram Plus is just an add-on for people who want more out of the platform, particularly around stories, profile customization, and audience management.

The features break into three buckets: getting closer to the people you follow, seeing more data about your own content, and personalizing how the app looks and feels.

Story Features

This is where most of the new stuff lives.

Story Spotlight bumps your story to the top of your friends' feeds so it gets seen before others. Story Extend lets you keep a story up for 48 hours instead of the standard 24, giving people more time to catch it.

Super Hearts are animated hearts you can send on a friend's story, a bit more expressive than a standard reaction. And Multiple Story Audiences lets you create as many custom audience lists as you want, so you can share different stories with different groups without workarounds.

Insights and Previews

Story Preview lets you look at someone's story without it registering as a view. No pressure to react, no notification sent.

Story Rewatch Insights shows you how many times your own stories were rewatched, which is useful if you're tracking how your content is landing. Search Viewer List lets you look up whether a specific person has seen your story, rather than scrolling through a long list to find them.

Profile and Customization

Custom App Icon lets you swap the Instagram icon on your home screen for something from a curated set, including options designed by creators. Custom Bio Font changes the typeface on your profile bio to reflect your personal style.

More Profile Pins expands your pinned posts up to six, so you have more control over what people see first when they visit your profile. Post Directly to Profile lets you upload something to your grid or highlights without it showing up in your followers' feeds.

Availability

Instagram Plus is rolling out globally today. Meta is also reportedly working on a bundle called Meta One that would combine Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus into a single subscription.

The free Instagram app stays exactly as it is. This is an opt-in upgrade, not a paywall on existing features. New features are expected to be added to the subscription over the coming months.
