Instagram Unveils iPad App with Reels-Centric Layout Design and New Following Tab
Instagram has introduced a version of its app specifically for Apple's iPad. This new design caters to the way users interact with larger screens, focusing on relaxed entertainment. Upon launching the app, users are greeted with Reels, providing engaging content on a bigger display. Additionally, Stories are prominently featured at the top for easy connection with important contacts, and messaging is accessible with a single tap.
To enhance user experience, Instagram has added a "Following" tab on the iPad. This feature offers various ways to view updates from followed accounts. Users can explore three categories: "All," which includes recommended posts and reels; "Friends," featuring content from mutual followers; and "Latest," showing chronological posts with the newest first. Users can customize these feeds to prioritize preferred content.

Enhanced Features for Bigger Screens
The design of Instagram for iPad leverages the larger screen to offer more features with minimal taps while maintaining simplicity. The layout allows users to easily access messages and notifications by displaying both tabs simultaneously. When viewing reels, comments can be expanded without reducing reel size, ensuring users don't miss any reactions.
This updated version of Instagram is now available globally for iPad models compatible with iPadOS 15.1 and later versions. It is free to download from the App Store. Android users can expect this tablet-friendly design soon.
Customizable Viewing Experience
Instagram's new iPad app aims to provide a seamless experience by integrating more functionalities into fewer actions. The app's layout supports multitasking by allowing users to view messages and notifications together. While watching reels, comments can be expanded without interrupting the viewing experience, enabling users to enjoy reactions without missing any part of the reel.
The introduction of Instagram for iPad reflects user feedback about not missing updates from favourite accounts. The new "Following" tab offers tailored viewing options: "All" shows recommended content from followed accounts; "Friends" highlights mutual followers' posts; and "Latest" presents recent posts in order.
By prioritizing ease of use and enhanced features, Instagram's iPad version ensures that users have an enriched experience on larger screens. With its global rollout underway, this update promises a more engaging way to connect and entertain on tablets.
