LG Wallet app hits Google Play Store; listed to work only on LG G7

Update: The LG Wallet app has been removed from the Google Play Store now.

LG is highly anticipated to launch its next-generation flagship smartphone - the LG G7 at the MWC 2018 tech show. Now, the company has released a new Android app called LG Wallet on the Google Play Store but it remains nonfunctional.

LG Wallet app hits Google Play Store; listed to work only on LG G7

According to a report by Android Police, the LG Wallet is listed as a secure mobile payment application for LG's premium mobile handsets. The interesting aspect of this application is that the description shows that the app can be used only on the unannounced LG G7. Recent media reports have tipped that LG will be rebranding its G series and that the LG G7 will be released under a different name.

Apparently, we can either expect the description of the LG Wallet app to be updated soon or the app to be pulled from the Play Store and launched after the flagship device's unveiling. Though the listing of the LG Wallet app is found in the Play Store, the app remains nonfunctional. You can still install the app on smartphones such as LG V30. The app also appears to be compatible to function with a range of non-LG smartphones too such as Nexus 6, Nextbit Robin, Pixel XL and some OnePlus smartphones.

From the listing, it looks like the LG Wallet app will replace the already existing LG Pay service. Notably, the icon of the latest app on the Play Store reads LG Pay and not LG Wallet. What's confusing is that the app's listing and in-app header show LG Wallet but the icon, boot animation and screenshots show LG Pay. This confusion could be due to the dead links and errors in the description.

Back in 2017, LG made it clear that the company is in plans to enter the mobile payments market segment. In June last year, the company implemented its plan by releasing the LG Pay service on the flagship smartphone - LG G6 at that time.

While the LG Wallet is yet to be announced officially, the curious users can download the same on their device either via the Google Play store or sideload the app via APK Mirror and use it to know how it actually functions. Here's the LG Wallet Google Play Store link for you to try out the application.
