Meta Launches Standalone Meta AI App Powered by Llama 4

Meta has launched a standalone Meta AI app, powered by its Llama 4. While millions already use Meta AI daily across platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, this new standalone app offers users a more personal and immersive experience through voice conversations.

The company says ''This release is the first version, and we're excited to get this in people's hands and gather their feedback. ''

Meta AI App Explained

The Meta AI app leverages Llama 4 to help users solve problems and answer daily questions. With built-in web search, the assistant can provide recommendations, dive deeper into topics, and even help users stay connected with loved ones.

Meta says in its blog post -- ''While speaking with AI using your voice isn't new, we've improved our underlying model with Llama 4 to bring you responses that feel more personal and relevant, and more conversational in tone. ''

The app includes a voice demo using full-duplex speech technology, which allows for natural, real-time conversations. Instead of reading out prewritten responses, this technology delivers a more natural voice experience trained on conversational dialogue. Users can now generate or edit images through either voice or text, integrated directly into the AI chat experience.

Moreover, the Meta AI app includes a Discover feed, which showcases how others are using Meta AI. Users can view top prompts, get inspired, and remix ideas.

Availability

Meta AI app can be accessed across all Meta products and devices-from Facebook and Instagram to WhatsApp, Messenger, and even Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The standalone Meta AI app is currently rolling out in select countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Additionally, Meta is merging the new AI app with the Meta View companion app for Ray-Ban Meta glasses. On the web, Meta AI is also receiving updates, including voice capabilities and access to the Discover feed.
