Netflix has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) system for advertisers at its recent Upfront event. The streaming service is focusing on its in-house ad platform, Netflix Ads Suite, showcasing features and tools for advertisers. New ad formats were also revealed to help clients reach their target audiences effectively. AI will be used to integrate ads with shows and movies, creating an immersive viewing experience.

The Netflix Ads Suite is currently operational in the US and Canada. It will expand to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) next week. By June, it will be available in all 12 countries where the ad-supported tier is offered. This platform allows advertisers to target over 100 interests across 17 categories using Netflix's first-party data.

Generative AI Enhances Ad Experience

One of the innovative features includes generative AI that integrates ads with the themes of shows and movies. This ensures that viewers do not feel disconnected from the content while watching ads. According to Netflix, this approach makes ads more relevant and enhances viewer engagement.

Interactive midroll ads and pause ads are among the new formats available to advertisers. Interactive midrolls play during episodes or movies, while pause ads appear when content is paused. These formats can be customised with overlays, call-to-action buttons, and second screen options.

Expanding Ad-Supported Services

The ad-supported service has already attracted 94 million subscribers. Advertisers can access first-party measurement solutions to track campaign performance effectively. The modular framework for ad formats offers flexibility in customising advertisements according to client needs.

"So if you take away anything from today, I hope it's this: the foundation of our ads business is in place. And going forward, the pace of progress is going to be even faster," stated Amy Reinhard, Netflix's President of Advertising.

By 2026, these ad formats will be available in all countries supporting ad-based services. This expansion reflects Netflix's commitment to enhancing its advertising capabilities globally.

In addition to these developments, Netflix has redesigned its TV app and introduced GenAI search on iOS devices. These updates aim to improve user experience by making content discovery more efficient through AI-powered search functionalities.
